Need to adapt quickly to manage risk and reduce emissions contradicts reputation
Head of Mining Journal Research Chris Cann speaks with International Council on Mining and Metals health and safety director, Sarah Bell, who also leads the group's OEM initiative on innovation for cleaner safer vehicles, materials stewardship and responsible sourcing. This is the second part of a two-part interview series.
Stakeholders are demanding action, and quickly, which is a huge challenge for an industry that has traditionally been slow to embrace change. However, miners have proven they are able to "think strategically and act collaboratively to reduce emissions along the entire value change", with progress already being made - ICMM-member emissions are down 6% in the past three years. Sarah talks through the differences in progress across scopes 1 through 3, and how collaboration is working on the ground.
